The EPA OIG Cash Awards Program recognizes and rewards the disclosure of suspected fraud, waste, or mismanagement that results in a cost savings to the EPA and the CSB.
Cash awards may be granted to EPA and CSB employees who voluntarily disclose information to OIG personnel concerning fraud, waste, or mismanagement that was not previously known to the OIG. EPA OIG employees are not eligible for cash awards under the program.
How the program works:
EPA OIG component offices will conduct an annual assessment to determine the potential nominees for a cash award, and assistant inspectors general will submit the award nominations to the inspector general. The inspector general will provide final approval or disapproval of award recipients based on the award nominations.
The maximum cash award amount is $10,000 or an amount equal to 1 percent of the Agency's cost savings, whichever is smaller. Award amounts are determined in accordance with Title 5, United States Code, Section 4512.
Nominations for awards are considered after closure of an inquiry that substantiates savings. Consistent with the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, the identity of an award recipient shall remain confidential unless the employee consents to disclosure or the inspector general determines that disclosure is unavoidable.
