The question that haunts the dreams of any host: how on earth do I determine how much to serve each guest? How much wine do I get? How many appetizers is TOO MANY appetizers?

One gathering in particular that induces frantic research? Thanksgiving dinner. Today I’m sharing my guide for all things Thanksgiving! Read on to learn how to finally plan for the right amount of the bird, the sides, and the wine!

Thanksgiving Dinner: How Much To Serve Per Person

Thanksgiving is a meal that no one wants a spiced appetite for, but light snacks are an absolute must before the big meal. Especially if guests are arriving hours before dinner will be serve!I recommend 4 appetizers or bites per person.

Most resources out there will recommend between 1 and 2 pounds of turkey per person. I think it’s safe to plan for 1 1/2 pounds per person. What’s the worst that could happen? A leftover turkey sandwich?!

3/4 cup of stuffing per person should be plenty. There’s enough division on the topic that some people may have seconds while others have none! If you have stuffing lovers in your home, better to round up to 1 cup person just in case.

Everyone loves mashed potatoes, right? I argue that a full 3/4 cup is allocated per person. They’re just too good!

1/2 cup of a variety of vegetable sides is ample for Thanksgiving. Whether it’s Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes,Wild Rice Pilaf with Apples, Perfectly Roasted Brussels Sprouts,or Brown Sugar Acorn Squash Wedges, 1/2 cup will be plenty!

Another gathering polarizing topic, gravy is something I always struggle with. It just doesn’t taste as great leftover, so I never went to make too much gravy when I host. 1/3 cup should be plenty per person.

On the contrary of gravy, cranberries are something that I seem to think just get better the longer they sit. 1/3 cup per person is plenty, but don’t be too disappointed if you have leftovers. Slather them on a sandwich, shake in to a co*cktail, or mixed in with salad dressing: this is the condiment that keeps on giving!

1.5 rolls per person is the perfect amount. Like a few other Thanksgiving recipes, rolls are one that some people take, and others opt out. They make wonderful sandwiches for that leftover turkey!

While 1 slice should be plenty per person: know your crowd. You may have an uncle how likes a full slice of both pumpkin and apple, or a sister who likes to try a sliver of each.

1 bottle per person may SEEM like a lot, but given the length of time guests will be at your house, socializing, cooking, or watching something festive on TV after the big meal, you’d be surprised how quickly those bottles are depleted!
