The Storm Shadow cruise missile has become one of Ukraine’s most favoured weapons for long-range missions against high-value Russian targets.
When they were first delivered to Ukraine in May, the missiles developed jointly by BAE Systems and by the French company, Matra, were the longest-range weapons available to the Ukrainian military.
This stealthy missile, which is guided by GPS and has pinpoint accuracy, was designed to destroy concrete bunkers. It has a ground-penetrating charge and once the missile has breached the outer surface the main warhead detonates.
As with all wars, weapons are adapted to suit the circ*mstances, and Storm Shadow has been found to be effective against warships.
