Indiana's largest festival celebrates the 31 historic covered bridges of Parke County.

Parke County Indiana is also known as the "Covered Bridge Capital of the World". it is home to 31 historic covered bridges and hosts Indiana's Largest festival every October. Over the 10 days, Parke County sees around 2 million visitors each year.

The county claims to have more covered bridges than any other county in the United States. This is due to several reasons, mainly due to the numerous streams and creeks in the county, and having the natural resources and designers to build the bridges. Most were built of poplar wood and built Burr Arch style.

With it's 31 covered bridges, Parke County is the No. 1 county with the most covered bridges, in the United States, and is famous for it's Covered Bridge Festival, which runs for 10 days every October.

Notes. - Significance: The Cornish-Windsor Bridge is the longest covered bridge in the U.S. and the second-longest two-span covered bridge in the world. It is an excellent example of the work of James Tasker and Bela Fletcher, two prolific New England bridge builders.

Although many states have modern, decorative covered bridges, there is at least one historical covered bridge still standing in 30 states. Pennsylvania has the most with 227, Ohio has 143, Vermont has 100 and Indiana has 93.
