See's produces more than 26 million pounds of candy a year with many of its original creations still available today. The privately held company's success has not come without challenges. See's leadership says it has shouldered price increases as a result of inflation and supply chain backups.

Only the finest and freshest ingredients were accepted in their candy kitchen, causing suppliers to coin the phrase "See's quality"—higher than "top quality." See's kitchens are located at its headquarters and maintained at its original factory in Los Angeles, where there are also retail shops. It also has an office in Carson, California. The company has been owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Corporation since 1972.

Today, Ghirardelli is owned by the Swiss mass chocolate maker Lindt & Sprüngli AG. But Guittard remains family-owned and operated, the oldest of its kind in the country. They supply chocolatiers like Charles Chocolate, Recchiuti, and even See's Candy.

Even the Second World War didn't shake See's newfound reputation as a household name. While rationing made finding ingredients difficult, we remained committed to Quality Without Compromise. Never a company to lower our standards, we turned to making smaller amounts of candy daily, using the same fresh ingredients.

Warren Buffett's fondness for See's Candies is well-documented. Not only does he indulge in the company's Peanut Brittle, but he also regards See's as one of his favorite businesses.

He's said before that he drinks five cans of co*ke a day and told Fortune in 2015 that he's "one-quarter Coca-Cola." Buffett has also said he frequents McDonald's daily for breakfast, always getting one of three items: two sausage patties; a sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin; or a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit.

Rademacher said that distribution and container issues have also led to the price increase. In addition, sugar future prices are up about 8% this year.

Candy and gum prices rose 7.5% between September 2022 and September 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For context, the broader category of grocery prices increased 3.7% over that time frame.
