Feeling a bit uninspired with our family meals lately. I used to be super organized during the Covid months, with a meal calendar on the fridge guiding our dinners. We ended up eating out less and enjoying more nutritious homemade meals. Having a meal schedule really helps in maintaining healthier eating habits.

Just wondering, did any of you start the New Year with some healthy eating habits?

My husband and I are on a mission to incorporate more salads packed with protein and, of course, load up on plenty of fruits and veggies.

This week, I’ve been excited to share some of my favorite healthy recipes, and our top pick has been the salmon bowl. It’s loaded with nutritious and delicious ingredients that we love.

I’ll be honest, this recipe does take quite a bit of time to prepare, so I recommend doubling the ingredients to have some leftovers for later. Plus, we like to make it a joint effort – I handle the couscous and yams, while my husband makes the salmon sauce and barbecues it. Collaborating on dinners makes the meal even more enjoyable!

If salmon is your thing, then this recipe is a must-try! Save it for the weekends when you have a bit more time to dedicate to cooking in the kitchen.

HOW TO TELL WHEN AN AVOCADO IS RIPE

A few years ago, I happened to overhear a farmer at our neighborhood farmer’s market, sharing how to determine if an avocado is ripe. According to him, you should pop off the stem, and if the area underneath is green, the avocado isn’t ripe yet. It should be a tan or brown hue to indicate it’s ready for eating.

He also mentioned that once the avocado is ripe, you can extend its shelf life by putting it in the fridge. However, he pointed out that you can’t expect an unripe avocado to ripen in the fridge; it must first ripen on the counter.

We are big fans of this sparkling drink. These are our go-to whenever we’re craving something fizzy with fewer calories. Though the bottles are smaller than your average soft drink, they pack in low sugar content and just 35 calories. Pour it over some ice in your glass, and you’ve got yourself the perfect little cold beverage.
