Häagen-Dazs® is committed to using only the best ingredients the world has to offer. So we knew we had to act when the bees that pollinate one-third of the foods we eat, including many of the ingredients we use every day, started to struggle. To date, we’ve donated more than $1,000,000 to keep them buzzing, and to keep our ice cream as sweet as it’s always been. In our latest effort, we worked with Xerces to install the largest, privately funded pollinator habitat on the farmland of our almond supplier in California’s Central Valley. The newly-planted habitat consists of six and a half miles of hedgerow and 11,000 native drought-tolerant shrubs and flowering plants, impacting 840 acres of farmland.
A key sustainability initiative of the Häagen-Dazs® production team is to guarantee zero waste to land fill when crafting the Häagen-Dazs® ice cream. Essentially, we do not send any waste from the London, Ontario factory to landfill. We have an extensive recycling program, and what doesn’t get composted is sent to farms to feed animals. The recycled material is sent to an incineration site, where they generate energy from the waste sent.
"Häagen-Dazs" is an invented pseudo-Scandinavian phrase coined by the American Reuben Mattus, in a quest for a brand name that he claimed was Danish-sounding. However, the company's pronunciation of the name ignores the letters "ä" and "s", and letters like "ä" or digraphs like "zs" do not exist in Danish.
® Non-Dairy collection has been crafted without any dairy ingredients. But we recommend individuals with sensitivities to dairy or allergen restrictions to dairy should follow up with their healthcare professionals for additional guidance before indulging in our non-dairy flavours.
Generally speaking, ice cream that you buy at your local grocery or big box store should be perfectly safe for you to eat. If you're tempted by the soft-serve machine at a local restaurant, that should be fine, too, as long as the ice cream is made with pasteurized milk.
Is Häagen-Dazs® ice cream pasteurized? All Häagen-Dazs raw dairy products (skim milk, whole milk and cream) are pasteurized in our facilities using the high temperature short time (HTST) method. Our eggs are pasteurized at the vendor prior to delivery to our production facilities.

So if you really want to indulge in a soft-serve ice cream or thickshake, ask if the dispenser is pasteurised regularly. Otherwise, stick to hard-frozen ice cream and gelato to satisfy your cravings. But avoid homemade ice cream unless you're sure it doesn't contain raw or undercooked egg.
“For everyone asking about soft ice creams - they are safe to eat in pregnancy. If you are concerned about the food safety of the ice cream served from a van (or in fact, any food served anywhere), you can look out for the Food Standards Agency certificate, often displayed on the van, which should reassure you.

Gelato is not usually the friendliest option if you're avoiding lactose. Like sherbet, it traditionally contains milk or milk products. HÄAGEN-DAZS ice cream is denser than regular ice cream because it contains less air, which gives the product its creamy texture. We recommend letting the product stand at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving to make scooping easier.
Only Extraordinary Ingredients For The Ultimate Flavour
And we only add natural flavourings. We also refuse to pump our product full of air so that with every spoonful you get less air and more rich and delicious ice cream. Each scoop starts life as only four ingredients – cream, milk, sugar and eggs.

While commercially manufactured ice cream is typically made with pasteurized eggs or egg products, recipes for homemade ice cream often use raw eggs in the base mixture.
